Saddleback College Senior Fiscal/Veterans Specialist-Lateral and External (one or more positions) Initial Screening Date 01/04/2022 Pay Range: 130, Step 1 is $5,445 per month In-person schedule: Mon-Thur, 9AM to 6PM and Fri, 8AM to 5PM (Schedule and shift are subject to change in accordance with department needs.) PLEASE NOTE: In order to be considered for this opening, you must apply through the District website at https://jobs.socccd.edu Classification Benefits: Under direction from higher level supervisory or management staff, performs the more complex duties supporting the daily operations of the College Fiscal Office including various accounting and clerical functions and the provision of information and assistance to students regarding Veterans Administration benefits; coordinates assigned activities with other departments, divisions, and outside agencies; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Summary Description: Under general supervision from the assigned administrator, performs responsible general administrative, programmatic, secretarial, and clerical assistance duties in support of assigned Health Sciences and Human Services Division/Emeritus Institute programs and functions; coordinates major activities and programs; and provides a variety of information and assistance to students, faculty, staff, and the general public relative to assigned area of responsibility. May receive technical training and work direction from an academic bargaining unit program supervisor. Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the advanced journey level class in the Fiscal/Veterans Specialist series. This level is distinguished from the Fiscal/Veterans Specialist by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes within this series including coordination of daily office operations and technical supervision over lower level, part time and work study staff. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility. Representative Duties: The duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Knowledge of: --- Operations, services, and activities of a comprehensive College Fiscal Office including Veterans Administration benefits. --- Federal, state, and local laws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations pertaining to Veterans Administration benefits. --- Principles of lead supervision and training. --- Methods and techniques of public relations. --- Principles and practices of accounting. --- Principles and procedures of financial record keeping and reporting. --- Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation. --- English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. --- Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Ability to: --- Lead, organize, and review the work of staff. --- Coordinate the daily functions of the College Fiscal Offices. --- Independently perform the most difficult work of the unit related to Veterans Administration benefits. --- Understand and effectively operate electronic budget and accounting software systems accurately and expeditiously. --- Interpret and apply federal, state, District and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations. --- Analyze and verify a variety of financial data and evaluate student ability to pay for education. --- Examine and verify financial documents and reports. --- Respond to difficult inquiries and requests from students regarding Veterans Administration options and programs. --- Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. --- Work independently in the absence of supervision. --- Understand and follow oral and written instructions. --- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. --- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Job Requirements:Education and Experience Guidelines: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. - Education/Training: Equivalent to two years of college level course work in finance, accounting, business administration or a related field. - Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting or a related field.
