This position is a short-term, temporary, Non-Bargaining Unit assignment, not to exceed 160 days. The assignment is on an as needed basis, and may be shortened or extended. Under the supervision of the Director the physician assumes the responsibility of providing quality, holistic and integrated health care for the students at Saddleback College. Education/Training: Minimum Qualifications: -- - - MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school. -- - - Licensure or eligibility for licensure in the State of California. -- - - Board Certification in Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine. -- - - Federal DEA number and state controlled substance registration. -- - - Current CPR/AED certification. Preferred Qualifications: -- - - Experience in working in a college health setting. -- - - Competency with minor office medical procedures. License or Certificate: A valid California Driver's License. Proof of insurance may be required for offsite assignments in order to drive a District or personal vehicle. Code sect. 88003 states "Short-term employee means any person who is employed to perform a service for the district, upon the completion of which, the service required or similar services will not be extended or needed on a continuing basis."-- - The exact start and end dates must be submitted. The maximum end date is the end of the Fiscal Year. All positions must be approved approved prior to the employee's first day of work. Contingent/conditional job offer: Any NBU job offer that is received is contingent upon successful completion of the Human Resources pre-employment process. The Human Resources hiring process may include, but is not limited to, successful completion of Live Scan fingerprinting (approx. $70), background checks, reference checks, TB testing, as well as completion of new hire paperwork. It is the employee's responsibility to incur the cost of any testing required for the position, and there will be no reimbursement for this expense.Job Requirements:Representative Duties and Responsibilities:-- - Conducts comprehensive health assessments of patients to diagnose and treat acute and/or chronic medical and psychiatric disorders in a fashion consistent with state regulation and board certification. Responsible for individualized evaluation and assessment of clinical signs and symptoms, utilization of critical thinking in the establishment of a medical/psychiatric diagnosis for actual/potential health problems, and the use of current guidelines in the active management of medical conditions encountered. Maintains accurate, legible, and confidential medical records. Documents medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with standards. Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic studies for evaluation, clinical decision making and continued care of the patient. Prescribes, dispenses and/or administers appropriate medication, corrective interventions and medical therapeutics. Educates and instructs patients on preventive care, medical and psychiatric issues, and the use of prescribed medical treatments and/or prescription medications including schedule II through V controlled substances. Initiates emergency treatment of acute medical and psychiatric problems in a fashion consistent with state regulation and board certification. Facilitates and coordinates transitional or specialized care for patients who require services beyond the scope of SHS. Responsible for supervising patient care from admission through discharge. Conducts oneself in a professional and collegial manner with fellow health care professionals and Student Health Services staff members. Provides screening and brief intervention to address health risks such as high risk alcohol use, sexual activity, tobacco use, violence and safety, and mental health concerns. Participates in ongoing review and revision of standard guidelines used in clinical practice. Participates in the evaluation of the quality of care through a peer review process which is part of the Quality Assurance program. Presents clinically relevant in-services and coordinates interdisciplinary case discussions. Actively participates in working groups, teams and committees. Participates with other providers in the SHS.. May supervise and train students in other allied health programs. Actively participates in regional and national professional organizations. Maintains medical licensure in the State of California. Maintains board certification in primary specialty. Maintains clinically competent patient care through ongoing continuing education as required by specialty certification boards and state licensure. Acts as a liaison between students, parents, and the Director of Student Health Center and the VP of Student Services office in regard to academic and health issues. Continually maintains patients' privacy as outlined in federal privacy laws. Performs related duties as required.
