uses AAMC salary benchmarks for Clinical Pathology ranging from
$178,878-357,069. This position includes membership in the health
science compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for
additional compensation.

Position description
The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University
of California, Irvine, School of Medicine, invites applications for
a full-time faculty position to serve as the Assistant/Associate
Director of Medical Microbiology. The academic appointment may be
at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, in the Health
Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on
experience and extent of research and teaching effort. Both HS and
Clinical X faculty provide patient care; teach fellows, residents,
and medical students; perform public and University service; and
contribute to scholarly activities. Clinical X faculty are expected
to conduct more substantial research and have demonstrated
excellence in teaching. An academic appointment in the Clinical X
series confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate.
Candidates should have an MD, DO or PhD degree and significant
experience and/or fellowship training in clinical microbiology.
Applicants with an MD or DO degree should be eligible for a
California medical license and be board certified in Clinical
Pathology and preferably also in Clinical Microbiology, whereas
those with a PhD degree should have American Board of Medical
Microbiology certification or eligibility. Applicants with
expertise in diagnostic molecular microbiology will be highly
considered.
The successful applicant will have a track record of working
cooperatively and collegially within an academic and clinical
environment and will contribute to the teaching, clinical service,
and research missions of the department. Along with the Director of
Medical Microbiology and other department leaders responsibilities
include all administrative and regulatory requirements of managing
a full service clinical microbiology laboratory, new test
implementation, and teaching of residents, fellows, and
professional students.
This position will serve the microbiology laboratory needs of UCI
Health which includes the 400+ bed state-of-the-art
tertiary/quaternary care Douglas hospital located in the city of
Orange, a new hospital and outpatient complex on the Irvine campus,
and several outpatient clinics throughout Orange County.
The base salary range for this position is $178,878-357,069. The
posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and
step at appointment. This position includes membership in the
health science compensation plan, which provides for eligibility
for additional compensation.

Requirements - All applicants must have significant experience
and/or fellowship training in clinical microbiology, must be
board-certified or board-eligible in Clinical Pathology or the
American Board of Medical Microbiology; and if an MD, must hold or
qualify for a medical license in the State of California. Salary
and rank are commensurate with experience.
